Timeless Melodies: Can't Help Singing

Harold Arlen is considered one of popular music's most under-acknowledged songwriters ever. Of the 500-plus songs he penned, probably the most recognizable is “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (which he just happened to come up with while driving down Sunset Blvd.). Other Arlen songs include “Come Rain and Come Shine,” “That Old Black Magic,” and too many more than we have space to list. But the Bowers Museum remembers ol' Harold—and dedicates their latest Timeless Melodies lecture to him. Come join the discussion and hear some of the greatest songs of the '30s, '40s, '50s and '60s—and learn all about the unknown man behind them.
