Shirley Valentine

This 1989 Tony Award-winner is best known to the masses as a film starring Pauline Collins, who received an Oscar nod for her portrayal of the title character—a witty, streetwise middle-aged housewife who flees her humdrum life in Liverpool to rediscover herself in Greece. Unlike the film, the play is a one-character story and writer Willy Russell’s exceptional monologues are insightful, touching and incredibly hilarious. It’s not often we get to experience a story from a woman’s perspective that isn’t just about shopping, landing a man or dying of cancer, so treat yourself to some realism and enjoy an evening that reveals how complex and interesting women truly are.

Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 27. Continues through Oct. 23, 2011
