Ghost the Musical

Everyone can finally agree that the things that made Ghost the film a hit were the Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody,” Whoopi Goldberg’s Oscar-winning, ad-libbed shtick, Patrick Swayze’s bod, and Demi Moore’s hair. Pennies and tears and pottery helped, of course, and collectively convinced audiences that this overly sentimental story of the power of love was palatable. Enter Ghost the Musical, because after Desperately Seeking Susan the musical, why not? Penned by Bruce Joel Rubin – who brought you Ghost the film – this power-ballad-laden trip filled with declarations of eternal devotion and soap opera sex scenes (cue ripped abs), at least has a soundtrack by the eminent Dave Stewart. It also has lots of screens onto which artsy, digital age abstractions and music video clips flash about to suck you into a virtual world of longing and love after life, which is exactly the kind of thing today’s theater goers crave. Molly, you in danger, girl.
