Fun With Nuns

Few religions are known for poking more fun at themselves than Catholicism. Well, more to the point, it’s the practitioners of Catholicism who seem to get the most joy from knocking it down a peg or two. (The Pope himself? Still taking it pretty seriously.) There is a long tradition of humorous examinations of Catholicism in popular culture (Christopher Durang’s Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You, Nunsense, Judas Priest, etc.), and this season, the Laguna Playhouse is presenting Sister’s Christmas Catechism, a light-hearted tale of a nun investigating the mystery of the Magi’s missing gold, featuring Sister from the wildly popular Late Night Catechism series. This should be the perfect night out for those grown-up parochial schoolers whose knuckles still ache at the sight of a nun with a ruler.
