'Creativity Within Tradition: The Beauty of Oaxacan Folk Art'

After filling up on turkey and stuffing the night before, spend the evening visiting the Bowers Museum during its After Hours program—a chance to explore the museum’s galleries (including special exhibitions “Fabergé: Imperial Jeweler to the Tsars” and “Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection”) without the crowds. The night's highlight is the special, one-hour presentation “The Beauty of Oaxacan Folk Art” by Porfirio Gutierrez. This famed Mexican artist/master rug-weaver discusses the Pre-Colombian connection to design and process, the use of natural dyes, traditional patterns passed down through family tradition, and modern designs. Food and drinks are available for purchase during the event, and all proceeds benefit the Bowers Museum Education Program. Attendees also receive a discount for use within the museum’s Gallery Store (just in time for Black Friday).
