Blowing Up

On the surface, the cultural contributions of Australia may seem limited to AC/DC, Olivia Newton-John and Yahoo Serious. But there is one contribution far older than Young Einstein: the didgeridoo. Most often mistaken for an elaborate smoking apparatus, the instrument has been around for thousands of years. Capable of producing one low wavering drone, constantly propelled by circular breathing, the long hollow tube was minimalist long before John Cage ever invented silence. This monthly event is also a meeting place for Australian ex-pats tired of explaining vegemite and the complete absence of the "bloomin' onion" on their native shores. So dust off your didgeridoo and get those lungs churning. Remember: in through the nose, out through the mouth.
