Alvin Ailey Dance

Costa Mesa thinks they can dance this week the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performs the West Coast premieres of several new works. In the mix are Ronald K. Brown’s Dancing Spirit that utilizes a variety of ethnographic sound and dance modalities in tribute to Judith Jamison’s 20-year contribution to the company as their Artistic Director; Jamison’s own compendium of movement-based vignettes called Among Us (Private Spaces: Public Places); the Harlem Renaissance era-inspired Uptown by Matthew Rushing, and the company’s new Best of 20 Years program which features moving highlights from the Ailey repertory’s inspiring range of dance techniques.
