The Santa Ana Police Department holds a DUI/drivers license checkpoint from 9 tonight through 2:30 a.m.
The location: near 1000 N. Harbor Blvd.
Besides seeking to remove drunken drivers from Santa Ana roads, the operation targets unlicensed motorists because they are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver is, according to DMV statistics.
Officers who man checkpoints are trained to detect drug or alcohol impairment, which brings up this reminder: Though weed is legal and you have a prescription for a medication, you are still subject to a world of shit should it turn out you were under the influence of either while driving.
Santa Ana’s anti-DUI ops are funded by a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
