Last night, two OC Weekly writers were honored at the LA Press Club‘s 61st  Southern California Journalism Awards.

In the Entertainment News or Feature category for daily and weekly papers with a circulation of less than 50,000, Alexander Hamilton Cherin won 1st Prize for his Dec. 13, 2018 story “The Mighty 690.”

“‘The Mighty 690’ married style and content,” the judges said about the story. “It read like a narrator’s voice — a narrator one might hear on a bygone radio show that made listeners gather around their sets. Fresh, funny, witty, charming and smart, it was easy to follow and easy to love. By far the favorite in a highly competitive category.”

And in the News Feature category, Staff Writer Gabriel San Román won 2nd prize for his Sept. 6, 2018 story “Orange County’s Home-Care Program is Plagued with Poor Pay and Shortages.”

  1. Alexander Hamilton Cherin comes from a writing legacy. So happy he is being recognized for his own talents and his SoCal subjects. Congratulations and more to come.
