There's no reason to be surprised at OC Register's annual “Best Of Orange County” winner's list. This is Orange County, after all. And these are Register readers, after all. Still, every year, we weep inside.

The newspaper's People's Choice awards were recently unveiled. Here are some lowlights from the “Best Dining” category:
Best Sandwich: Subway
Best Pizza: Round Table Pizza
Best Japanese Restaurant: Benihana
Best Chinese Restaurant: P.F. Chang's China Bistro
Best Brewery: BJ's.
And Taco Bell was named the third best taco restaurant in Orange County.
Face-palm.
We feel for the poor, poor reporters who had to write up sad blurbs to accompany each winner, such as, “Among the most popular sandwiches, are the Italian B.M.T, (a sandwich of Genoa salami, pepperoni, black forest ham, paired with a customer's favorite veggies and bread) Tuna and the Subway Club. New limited-time subs come out monthly, putting a twist on the traditional foot-long sandwiches.”
On a less depressing note, Fast Food Maven Nancy Luna's personal picks are admirable–she chose Bruxie for Best Sandwich, Soho Taco for Best Taco and Haven Gastropub for Best Burger.
But the real list of the best places to eat in Orange County is on its way. OC Weekly's annual “Best Of” issue hits newsstands on Oct.11!
