First there was Carmageddon in 2011. Then five years later, Southern California drivers had to face Coronageddon. Now, prepare yourselves for the very real, very annoying Orange Crushpocalypse.

The 5 Freeway will be closing for a couple nights in early AugustĀ for the I-5/Main Street Carpool Bridge Demolition. “There will be a full closure on northbound I-5 between SR-55 and SR-22, a full closure on Main Street between Santa Clara Avenue and Main Place Drive, partial closure on southbound I-5 between Gene Autry Way to Main Street, as well as various on and off ramp closures,” Santa Ana city officials said in a July 24 news release.

  1. The Orange “Crushcapolypse” occurs every morning and evening for all you tourists out there reading this. That Santa Ana stretch on both the 5 NB and 5 SB always gets backed up super bad.

  2. I don’t think anything should be suffixed with ‘-geddon’ other than LA’s Carmageddon — nothing else compares.
That was a 53-hour closure — that’s over two days straight, no access to the freeway at that section was allowed at ANY point in the day.

But Corona and Orange “-geddons” are hardly so — they are nightly closures that go up to 6, 7 or 8am — AND during a weekend, when there’s no morning rush-hour.
The rest of the day, it’s fine.

Just my opinion — yes, it’s worth it to announce in the news, but “-geddon” and ‘-ocalypse” is a super stretch attempt for clickbait.
