The Costa Mesa Police Department holds a DUI/drivers license checkpoint from 8 tonight through 2 a.m. Saturday.
The exact location was not disclosed.
Wherever it is, that spot was chosen based on collision statistics, frequency of DUI arrests and safety considerations for officer working the operation and motorists passing though it, according to the police department.
Funding comes from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
You’re encouraged to report drunk or drugged drivers by calling 9-1-1.
