On the first and third Wednesday of every month, eight-piece jazz group Riff Raff provides the perfect accompaniment to the cozy, warm bohemian atmosphere—complete with blended banana mochas—of the Gypsy Den Santora. With their fine synthesis of classical jazz, folk and swing, Riff Raff promises an evening of Django Reinhardt-inspired music. It’s a tough challenge: Reinhardt, a Belgian Gypsy jazz guitarist who brought us standards such as “Nuages” and “Manoir De Mes Reves,” remains one of the most celebrated jazz musicians even today. But really? It’s just the perfect soundtrack to a lazy evening spent over casual conversation, caffeine and veggie BLTs.
