If you can hear a Spanish guitar strumming sultry acoustic chords while reading this, then you're probably the prime audience for Irvine Barclay's New World Flamenco Festival. The ten-day dance-a-thon features flamenco ensembles from California and Spain, all who feature stormy, passionate dancers who look so fierce they might as well be breathing fire. Yet flamenco is a three-part art that includes singing, dancing and guitar, and accompanying each dancer are equally talented musicians who work their alegrias and malagueñas with soulful conviction. Join in on tonight's concert, which focuses prominently on award-winning, globe-trotting flamenco troupe Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenco, and see what this worldly, centuries-old art form can inspire in you.
