Nobuhito Nishigawara: Seeing

You simply can't peg the work of Nobuhito Nishigawara into one artistic genre, for it contains multiple facets of creepy calmness and playful imagery that are at once haunting and intriguing to the viewer. His eerie busts with holes for eyes indeed recall childhood nightmares, but his benign ceramic sculptures of animals and cartoon faces show an interesting conceptual range. Grand Central Art Center's latest show “Seeing” brings out the political in Nishigawara as he captures modern American-Japanese culture hybrids of manga, religion, and J-pop icons to examine cross-cultural consumerism in today's age. Come marvel this artist's expertly-made glazed ceramics in person and see what kind of discussions they inspire in you.
