Orange County Sheriff's Department multi-city DUI teams will target areas of the South County communities that have high incidence of arrests and collisions tied to drinking, drugging and driving.
“The
goal of the program is to reduce the rate at which the citizens of
Orange County are killed or injured in DUI-related collisions,” according to a sheriff's statement.
Costa Mesa's checkpoint will be at Harbor Boulevard and Peterson Place from 8 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday.
Its purpose also is to reduce deaths and injuries from alcohol-involved crashes, as well as educate the public on the dangers of driving while impaired, according to the department.
The Garden Grove Police Department
announced this week it will hold a DUI/drivers license
checkpoint at Garden
Grove Boulevard and Brookhurst Street the evening of Friday, March 12.
All the Orange County operations are funded by a grant from the California Office of
Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.
