Bird Watching

Say, is that winged creature a pied-
billed grebe? Perhaps its a double-
crested cormorant?
Time to test your fowl proficiency! The Bolsa Chica Wetlands Conservancy (which advocates the preservation of that strip of less-spoiled land and water between PCH and the suburban-development mecca otherwise known as Huntington Beach) boasts an impressive number of bird sightings. Over the past decade, well more than half of the 420 species found in Orange County have been spotted at the wetlands, making the swampy marsh an ideal place to scout our feathered friends.
This Sunday, bird-watchers and nature-lovers alike can explore one of the few remaining natural habitats in the area (jeez, that was painful to write). During a two-hour tour, the docent-led excursion makes several stops along the walkbridge and loop trails of the wetlands. Bring: sun protection, walking shoes and binoculars. Leave at home: dogs and bikes. Park in the South Ecological Reserve Parking Lot on PCH between Warner and Seapoint avenues.
