Seoulmate, Long Beach's two-year-old Korean-Mexi burrito joint, is expanding to OC--Downtown Fullerton to be exact, which is where owner Jason Kang and Sean Butler, his partner for this new venture, became friends in college.
"We are excited to open in historic Downtown Fullerton amongst the places we've been hanging out at since college," said Butler. "This city is where we met, where we attended college (Go Titans!), and made lots of great memories. Everyone has a favorite place to hang out at in Fullerton and our hopes for Seoulmate DTF is to compliment that in a delicious way."
Seoulmate Downtown Fullerton will serve the same menu as the Long Beach original, including the "Old Boy" burrito that I dubbed "the first Korean-Mexican burrito in this post-Kogi world that feels unforced."
"When you eat it," I wrote in my past review, "you're not thinking about how there's kimchi instead of pico de gallo, sesame-oil-scented bulgogi instead of carne asada; you're thinking about how good a burrito it is, one that has somehow managed to transcend its fusion-y novelty."
Seoulmate Downtown Fullerton also hopes to feature beer and soju. There will also be new snacks like spicy pork-loaded fries and kalbi sliders and weekly specials for both food and drink.
Kang and Butler are currently working to get their 56-seat operation at 114 West Commonwealth Ave. open for a mid-November debut. But all their social media accounts are revved and ready.
