Downtown Santa Ana Farmers Market to Host Holiday Movie Series Thursdays in December
While some may dread December's influx of Christmas music and ugly sweater parties, the organizers behind the Downtown SanTana's Farmers Market, Downtown Inc. and The Frida Cinema have joined forces this month to help make spirits bright with a holiday movie series, outdoors and for FREE.
Concurrent with the weekly farmer's market, you can swing by and check out the vendors at the market's usual time at 4pm before movie time begins at 6pm. The films will all be screened at the parking lot directly across from the Yost, directly adjacent to the market. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets, and hot beverages to enjoy the film comfortably. For non English-speaking folks, each film features Spanish subtitles as well. Here's the film lineup for the weeks ahead:
December 4: Elf (2003) The Will Farrell comedy that follows the adventures and mishaps of a human adult raised by elves who leaves home in the North Pole to find his birth father. This film carries the distinction of being Farrell's first film after leaving Saturday Night Live, as well as the film that ruined spaghetti for me for a year.
December 11: A Christmas Story (1980): In 1940's small town America, young Ralphie Parker only wants one thing for Christmas: a Red Ryder B.B. gun. But family, teachers, and even the town Santa Claus discourage his dreams with the same response: "You'll shoot your eye out, kid!" Probably one of the most iconic modern holiday classics today (especially after being in heavy rotation every year on T.V.), you can watch it here on the big screen and laugh aloud with everyone else at the moment Scottie Schwartz is triple-dog-dared to lick a freezing pole in winter.
December 18: Frozen (2013): You already know the story: Anna, a fearless young woman is on a journey to find her sister Elsa with the help of a mountain man named Olaf, his reindeer and some friendly snowmen. Elsa has the power to turn any object into ice, and has trapped the kingdom of Arendelle into an icy prison. It's up to Anna and friends to change things back.
