Behold the beginning of our annual 100 Favorite Dishes countdown! Every day until the publication of our fantabulous Best Of Issue, we'll list our favorite meals this year in descending order. Enjoy, pass it on, and tune in daily!

Tanor is a working-class Persian restaurant--a true rarity in OC--and its most prole meal is tahdig, that legendary dish of crisped rice gathered from the sides of the rice pot. It's not technically on the menu, but ask for it with time and the owners will gladly prepare it.

All it is is the crisped rice and a dollop of their take on mast-o-masir, the Persian yogurt spiked with shallots--that's it. But it's a great way to start Tanor's epic kabobs and koobidehs and their other working-class Persian meals. It's a great way for folks who have never had Persian food to start--just remember that you'll be eating with conventioneers and Disnerds and motel people...
