Anepalco's in Orange is a gem, a place where the French-endorsed occupation of Mexico during the 1860s isn't something to whine about but to embrace. And let's disregard tortas, mariachi, and the quinceañera waltz for a bit, and argue this live-and-let-live ideology lives on in the crepes con caramel.

Caramel isn't actually in the dish but rather cajeta, the better, slightly saltier Mexi version. And that's really about as Mexican as you get in this crepe–everything else is a Gallic feast, with a thin, pliable cover, stuffed with bananas inside, then topped with jullienned green apples. Walnuts also come on the crepe con caramel, but they're not in the picture since my chica doesn't appreciate the nut. And they come two to an order, but, again: my chica. Good enough to start a tiff between two enamorados, this crepe is.
