[UPDATED with More Suspicious Packages Today:] Bomb Squad Called to Santa Ana Schools Facility

UPDATE, AUG. 31, 1:43 P.M.: Another day, another evacuation of the Santa Ana Unified School District
distribution center and a nearby school due to suspicious packages.

The sheriff's bomb squad, which ought to consider placing a permanent post at the distribution facility at 720 North Fairview St., Santa Ana, ran the latest mysterious packages through an X-ray machine because they were addressed to a specific person rather than the school district or a specific department as is the norm.

One package was deemed safe, while the other was still being investigated.

Community Day Intermediate and High School were evacuated due to the investigation. It was the same drill Tuesday, when a random suitcase and box were found at the distribution center. The suitcase wound up having clothing and documents inside while the box was empty.

Today's packages came to the district from UPS, which is ironic because the bomb squad was also called to the UPS facility in the 1300 block of South Lewis Street, Anaheim, to check out a suspicious package this morning. That package was considered safe after an investigation, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

School District
distribution center.

District employees called school police
shortly after 9 :30 a.m. about the suspicious packages left at the
facility at 720 North Fairview St.

Roughly 75 district employees and 150 students from nearby
Community Day Intermediate and High School were evacuated, while Spurgeon Intermediate School was put on alert.

It's quite possible someone has finally stumbled upon the container holding former district trustee Nativo Lopez's dignity.
