The call that came in at 9:45 a.m. today was from family members who reported 57-year-old Nelson Tuiolosega had threatened to commit suicide. They arrived at Tuiolosega's home to find him “inside his residence with what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds,” reads the Huntington Beach Police Facebook page.

However, also inside was “another adult female
deceased inside the residence” that cops believe was “the victim of a
homicide involving Tuiolosega.” Her name, relationship to Tuiolosega and manner of death have not yet been released.

Tuiolosega was treated by Huntington Beach Fire paramedics before being taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange in critical condition. After surgery, he is likely to survive his wounds, according to police, who are holding Tuiolosega in guarded custody, on suspicion of murder.

The Los Angeles Times ran a story in January 1997 on Jennifer Tuiolosega, a point guard on the girls basketball team at Ocean View High School recovering from a serious knee injury. Quoted in the story was her father, a Nelson Tuiolosega, who did not want his daughter returning to the court.

UPDATE, OCT. 30, 5:04 P.M.: Police have identified the deceased as Heather K. Tuiolosega, the 47-year-old wife of the murder suspect.

An autopsy today determined she died from fatal stab wounds. Her husband suffered self-inflicted stab wounds, according to police.

His weren't fatal, though.
