Say Goodnight, Chuck?

A new Field Poll shows former congressman Tom Campbell (R-San Mateo) beating fellow Republicans Cary Fiorina and termed-out Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine) for the party bid to face Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer in the fall. The poll breaks down like this:

Campbell: 30 percent
Fiorina: 25 percent
DeVore: 6 percent
Undecided: 39 percent

A glass-half-full way for DeVore and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Fiorina to look at the results is there are still a lot of undecided voters. Fiorina told the Orange County Register's Dena Bunis her campaign expected Campbell, who recently switched races from goveror to Senate, to poll highest out of the box because he has the most name recognition in the race.

The poll, which was conducted between January 5-17, also shows none of the three GOP amigos defeating Boxer, who best Campbell by 10 points, Fiorina by 15 and
DeVore by 17.

Bunis got no comment to the Field Poll from the DeVore campaign, but she surmised they are clinging to the notion that the teabaggy magic that sprinkled over Scott Brown in Massachusetts could fall on ol' Chuckie as well.
