Not all Klan members are born raging racists, and that was definitely the case with Dr. Charles V. Doty, a longtime SanTana dentist still remembered in the older parts of the city. Doty was one of the OC brave who fought in World War I, and would later on belong to a group of SanTana civic leaders that had one–one!–Mexican among them. TOTALLY tolerant, Doty was.
Of course, that went nowhere, because almost as soon as Doty came back to Orange County, he signed up with the Klan.

He belonged to the first round of the Klan, the 1921 version that was ready to lynch an unknown victim until courageous OC District Attorney Alexander P. Nelson came and saved the day. The only other interesting thing I can say about Doty is that he was one of a disturbingly large amount of doctors who joined the Klan–maybe because all those freeloading wabs were filling up emergency rooms and destroying our health-care system even then? Oh, wait: that's an urban legend.
