Man Described as Would-be Car Thief Shot Dead by Anaheim Hills Resident

UPDATE, JUNE 8, 7:30 A.M.: Ryan Miller, 40, of Long Beach, was the man shot to death in Anaheim Hills Monday morning. The unidentified man who shot him was not taken into the custody, and the Orange County District Attorney’s office has not filed charges in the case.

ORIGINAL POST, JUNE 7: A man was shot Monday morning in the vehicle and driveway of a Anaheim Hills resident with a shotgun—and later died at a local hospital.

The unidentified resident could see someone inside his ride parked in the 100 block of South Eucalyptus Drive, prompting the car owner to grab his shotgun and head outside, according to Anaheim Police Sgt. Luis Correa.

A confrontation between the pair led the resident to fire one blast from his shotgun, prompting the supposed would-be car thief to leave the area, Correa said.

Police got the call about the shooting just before 5:10 a.m., and a short distance from the home officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, Correa said.

The theft suspect was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, the sergeant said.

Anaheim PD’s Homicide Detail is investigating the incident.

“The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notifications to family,” Correa says.
