Is It Surfrider Foundation or Stinkraiser Foundation? Nonprofit Says Don't Shower

What? ... No water!?!

The Surfrider Foundation, whose national office is in San Clemente, doesn't want you to shower. Don't worry, it's just for one day--March 22--so all of you who skip showering on even-number days won't have to do a thing. Or not not do a thing. Whatever.

The reason for this plea from our favorite clean ocean/tributaries nonprofit is to mark World Water Day which, wouldn't you know it, also falls on March 22.

"Our everyday water use at our homes ultimately impacts the ocean waters we swim, surf and play in," explains Surfrider Foundation CEO Chad Nelsen. "Following a drop of water from its origin, through its use and then its disposal into our oceans reveals an expensive, wasteful and often dirty journey."

Indeed, the day without a shower is part of Surfrider's Every Drop Counts water conservation campaign, which also calls on us water users to look for leaks and water waster. Together, Nelson says, we can maintain safe and reliable water sources.

With the campaign estimating that a 10-minute shower can waste more than 40 gallons of water, if 25,000 people skip a shower on March 22, a million gallons of H2o will be saved. Each pledge to go stinky on World Water Day will be tallied on to show the amount of water saved.

Wonder if Walgreens will track deodorant sales that day?
