STANTON MAN SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND ANNOYING 12-YEAR- OLD GIRL AT A PUBLIC LIBRARY

WESTMINSTER – A man was sentenced today for possessing child pornography
and annoying a 12-year-old girl at the Stanton Public Library.
Alejandro Lorenzo Contreras, 24, Stanton, pleaded guilty to a court
offer Sept. 13, 2010, to one misdemeanor count of possession of child
pornography and one misdemeanor count of child annoyance. The Orange
County District Attorney's office originally charged the child
pornography count as a felony, but it was reduced to a misdemeanor by
the court over the objection of the People. The People objected to the
reduction to a misdemeanor, arguing that it should remain a felony
because there are two victims in this case, Jane Doe and the unknown
child depicted in the pornographic image. Contreras has been sentenced
to one year in jail, three years of formal probation, and is required to
register as a sex offender.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on July 13, 2010, Contreras was at the
Stanton Public Library near Katella Avenue and Beach Boulevard. The
defendant made three young girls uncomfortable by following them around
inside the library and the nearby Boys N Girls Club. The defendant
also asked for a picture of 12-year-old Jane Doe to be sent to his
phone.

The three girls immediately notified the librarian, who told the girls
to call the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Deputies arrived and
arrested Contreras outside of the library. At the time of his arrest,
the defendant was in possession of a pornographic photo depicting
another child on his cell phone.

Deputy District Attorney

Nikki Buracchio of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
