A 29-year-old man being sought by Anaheim Police in an assault with a deadly weapon case was shot to death by an officer just after 9 p.m. Saturday.

Adalid Flores, who resided in Anaheim, was shot at least once by gunfire in the courtyard of a residence at 1322 N. East St. and then, according to the county coroner, died at 9:46 p.m. at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Flores was suspected of being the driver of a 2003 Honda Pilot that intentionally tried to ram one car and successfully rammed a Honda Accord on the 91 freeway near East Street, according to Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

Cops from his agency assisted the California Highway Patrol in trying to find the perpetrator, and they were directed by witnesses to the 1300 block of North East Street, where Flores was confronted by officers and the shooting happened, Wyatt said.

Officers immediately began performing lifesaving efforts on Flores, who was taken to the hospital but pronounced deceased upon arrival, Wyatt said.

The Orange County District Attorney’s office is handling the officer-involved shooting investigation, added Wyatt, who noted body camera footage from the incident was turned over to the OCDA.

Before the incident on the freeway, the dead man was “known to police,” Wyatt told the Orange County Register, which reports an Adalid Flores was awaiting trial in Orange County Superior Court on felony drug dealing charges and misdemeanor charges for driving without a valid license. Someone with that name was also convicted of a misdemeanor charge in 2010 for resisting a police officer, the paper added.
