3. Boy may have been tricked with meth-laced treat

The Huntington Beach Police Department is investigating whether a boy who fell ill eating Halloween candy laced with meth Saturday had been given the sweet while trick-or-treating in the area of Beach Boulevard and Atlanta Avenue. The child, whose name and age have not been released, is not from Surf City but did go door-to-door there Thursday evening, according to police Sgt. Michael Metoyer. After the boy experienced nightmares and would not go to back to sleep, he was taken to a local hospital, where it was confirmed he had been exposed to methamphetamine. It's unknown if the case is related to a Moreno Valley child who was also hospitalized Saturday after apparently eating tainted candy in that Riverside County town.
