Top 10 Songs You’re Proud To Know Line For Line

A sick sort of pride lingers after you’ve successfully learned the words to a popular lyric-laden song. The mere fact you were able to memorize something so frivolous probably arouses as much dopamine as the song itself.

Lyrical knowledge pre-Google required an intense study of liner notes — which were printed so small, so very small.

The risk of eye strain was worth it because we didn’t want to be caught muttering inaudibly during REM’s “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It” like these guys.

We’ve personally memorized the lyrics to at least half of the songs on this list. Kudos to you if you can sing them all. Sing loud and proud! In your car. Alone. With the windows up.

10. Alanis Morissette – “You Oughta Know”

Being able to sing all of the lyrics to this song made us feel twice the angst.

9. Eve6 – “Inside Out”

MTV’s Say What? taught us the lyrics to this song. Thanks MTV.

8. Salt-N-Pepa – “Shoop”

The original anthem for all the single ladies.

7. Queen – “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Party on if you know every word to “Bohemian Rhapsody”! Wayne and Garth would be proud.

6. Montell Jordan – “This Is How We Do It”

Our favorite line will forever be “ever since I was a lowercase g.”

5. Barenaked Ladies – “One Week”

It’s been 18 years since it was considered cool to know every word to this song… and even then, it wasn’t that cool.

4. Sugarhill Gang – “Rappers Delight”

The world needs more footage of old ladies singing this rap classic (à la The Wedding Singer).

3. Billy Joel – “We Didn’t Start The Fire”

Wow your audience by not glancing at the monitor during this karaoke staple.

2. REM – “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)”

We’ll admit it: we’ve shouted his named, but never Googled Leonard Bernstein until today.

1. Blackalicious – “Alphabet Aerobics”

If Daniel Radcliffe can do it, you can too.
