Show of the Day: Ron and Beth Martinez Going Away Party

Ron Martinez (pictured, right) has had his hand in lots of Orange County cookie jars. Many know him as the front man for punk band Final Conlfict, but the Buena Park native also shaped the area's musical landscape by turning thousands of kids onto good bands behind the counter of now-defunct Greene Records and as a booking agent at Chain Reaction. Recently, the Long Beach resident played bass in a punk band called 46 Short and booked acts local, national and worldwide (his roster includes the Stitches, the Casualties, D.O.A, Cock Sparrer, Channel 3, the Krum Bums, Lower Class Brats and the Voids).

Well, all good things must come to and end and as of next week, Martinez and his wife Beth (pictured left) will call Austin, Tex., home. But the Martinezs aren't leaving without one final blowout, which takes place tonight at Alex's Bar in Long Beach.
The event includes DJs and a David Bowie cover band called the Spiders from Bars,  featuring Alex Hernandez of Alex's Bar on bass, Rob Covacevich from Delta Nove on saxophone and flute, Jesse Wilder from Mr. Mister Miyagi on guitar and keyboards, the Adolescents' Steve Soto on guitar and vocals, Matt Southwell from Bang Sugar Bang on guitar and vocals, Gus from Los Mysteriosos singing “The Man Who Sold the World” and drummer Greg Stocks. The best part? It's free.
