Lady Gaga to Play Amy Winehouse in Biopic?

According to the Daily Star, Lady Gaga is in secret talks to play Amy Winehouse in a film. First, let me just say WTF? Uncanny resemblance aside, it's barely been two weeks since Winehouse died, and Hollywood is already capitalizing on her death? Too soon, too soon.

(Oddly enough, I was just a victim of Facebook spam that purported that “Lady Gaga was found dead in her hotel room.” Could this be a kind of promo for this news?)

The Daily Star story quotes a Hollywood insider saying: “Lady GaGa worshipped Amy and would love nothing more than to transform herself into her idol on the big screen. She'd be spot on performing Amy's songs and has got the right look and bolshy attitude. GaGa's been itching to make the transition from music into movies and sees this as the ideal role to launch her film career.”

Reports say that after Monster Ball's two-year run, Lady Gaga has been flooded with film scripts and is waiting for the right part to come along.

The same Daily Star source says Gaga's management team had been discussing possible film ventures before Winehouse died, “but there's only ever been one role she wants and that's to play Amy.”

After Winehouse died, Lady Gaga told Access Hollywood, “I always felt kind of like an outsider — in pop music, and just from high school and I remember [collaborator Lady Starlight] looked over at me and said, 'If she can do it, you can do it …' I always felt like Amy had opened a door for girls like me who didn't fit that exact real pop mold and [who were] real wholesome.

Lady Gaga and Winehouse never met, but Gaga said, “[Winehouse] was really special, and she's gonna be greatly missed.”
