Goldenvoice Announces Memorial Show For Ikey and Aaron Owens

The shock of losing brothers Ikey and Aaron Fletcher Owens last year is still something the local music scene is struggling to come to grips with. It was almost a year ago when we got the devastating news that Ikey, widely known as an original member of The Mars Volta, founder of Free Moral Agents, and Jack White's band, died of a heart attack while on tour with White in Mexico. He was 38 years old.

About five months later, that blow was compounded by the news that his brother Aaron, former guitarist for Hepcat, succumbed to congestive heart failure (also at age 38). In the weeks that followed each of their untimely deaths, the outpouring of remembrances and support for the Owens family was immense.

Next month, mega concert promoter Goldenvoice announced that it will also pay its respects to Ikey and Aaron with a tribute concert at the El Rey on November 14. Aaron's former band Hepcat is slated to headline with LBDA (Long Beach Dub-All Stars, the band both Ikey and Aaron played in), as well as their youngest brother Eugene Owens and guests, DJ Nobody, Dennis Owens (founder of the Goodfoot and Ikey's former bandmate in Free Moral Agents) and more.

Net proceeds will be used to build a new boutique recording studio celebrating the memory and lasting creative influence of Ikey and Aaron, which we're definitely excited to see. More news on that project later. Tickets for the event are on sale tomorrow starting at $25 and can be purchased here.
