Doheny Days Festival is Postponed Until 2014

After plenty of deliberation and despite our hope to have one last big festival blow out of the summer, Doheny Days announced that it will be taking a year off. Considering we've yet to hear any info about the lineup at this point (last year, they announced it in June) we're sad, but not entirely surprised. Bouncing back after a seven-year retirement and delivering some shockingly good sets from the Flaming Lips, Jane's Addiction, Santigold, Ziggy Marley and more over the past two years, the festival's production company Omega Events says they're on a mission to go back to the drawing to improve the festival experience. Yesterday, a notice on the festival's website told us not to worry–it won't be going away for good. They've already begun selecting dates for 2014.

“We have created and launched ten Doheny Days festivals since 1997, and we look forward to extending the tradition next summer. This break will allow us to focus on improving the fan experience, securing the best artists, and exploring new opportunities for 2014 and beyond,” says Producer Rich Sherman in a statement.

Looking to restructure itself both strategically and financially, the beach festival–typically held in early September–is hoping to continue building its reputation as a bad ass summer festival while maintaining its partnership California State Parks Department and The City of Dana Point. Last year, a packed crowd gathered to watch the Flaming Lips perform its first OC show since playing the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in 2003. Considering how Doheny Days has bounced back in recent years, hopefully this hiccup in its revival only means better things to come. We'll keep you posted with more news about the fest as it develops.
