All Day Santa Ana Summer Festival Puts the Movement in Music

An ambitious cultural undertaking is set to take place in downtown SanTana this Saturday as musicians, poets, activist organizations, speakers, DJs, dancers, artists will congregate for the Música en Movimiento Music and Arts Festival. The event sways heavily on local Orange County talent with acts coming from the diverse genre realms of hip-hop, son jarocho, garage rock, and reggae.

Featured artists are set to include the headlining 'Chicana from down under' Maya Jupiter performing with members of Quetzal, Milpa and OC Best Jazz/Latin winner Nancy Sanchez. Invited keynote speakers include Sojourner Truth Radio's Margaret Prescod, the Weekly's Mexican-in-Chief Gustavo Arellano and longtime activist Carlos Montes.

Putting together all the assembled pieces, it's easy to see that intersecting music and politics in the name of elevating social consciousness is the major aim of the festival set to take place at El Centro Cultural de Mexico. Think of it as a local version of the Rage Against the Machine-spearheaded “L.A. Rising” festival of last summer.

Where else can you see IChief, Street Spirit, Nilu Madadi, and Cuauhtemoc all in one place while introducing yourself to various grassroots based community organizations working towards progressive change in OC?
