The Dear Hunter

Casey Crescenzo, The Dear Hunter's songwriter, vocalist, pianist, guitarist and about a hundred more things, has the kind of musical ambition that makes heads swim and ears swoon. Though currently on a break from the band's six-album Acts project, chronicling the life and abrupt death of a boy in the early 1900's, and still basking in praise from the three hours of music cut into nine EPs titled The Color Spectrum (one EP for each color), he's managed to switch directions completely and record an album without any theme or concept. The ethereally beautiful Migrant, released in April, might actually have been the most difficult of all, as Crescenzo admits it was a challenge to create music “more transparent and more honest and more directly from the heart.” This week, in another massive undertaking, The Dear Hunter plays the Fox backed by a string quartet.
