The Chuck Dukowski Sextet

Man, the Duke—how many righteous bassists are gonna keep coming out of the South Bay? Dukowski was the soulful dude on bass for Black Flag and on the phones at legendary label SST, and his work ethic, vision and unbreakable principles helped to invent the best parts of the next generation of American music. He even went to jail for Black Flag, thanks to the machinations of a major label, but it just made him stronger. “I knew we were making a mark, and I felt the need to step up and say the things I felt,” he told Perfect Sound Forever. “It was everything to me. I poured every bit of myself into it, and I enjoyed it.” The sextet are his much-loved punk/jazz combat squad, and their version of Duke’s “My War” is a smasher. Absorb it in its totality.
