The Blad Soprano & The Chairs

Absurd, weird, batty—it's all wonderful to us. So we're especially looking forward to this new production from the Garage Theatre: two plays from the trailblazer of absurdist theater, playwright Eugène Ionesco. First up is The Bald Soprano, a tale about a casual visit between two married couples, a maid, and the local fire chief (the maid's lover). The rest of the story is a series of random sayings, nonsensical poetry and altogether madness, the last scene a reproduction of the first, causing a theatrical loop. The Chairs has a similarly madcap storyline: an elderly couple prepare a room full of chairs for invisible guests to hear an announcement, implied as the discovery of meaning of life. But has the world already ended? Directed by Jamie Sweet, don't miss these two acclaimed plays—and wonder what the hell is going on.

Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: May 10. Continues through June 8, 2013
