Return of the Swallows

If San Juan Capistrano is known for anything besides that Mission of theirs, its the Return of the Swallows. Still related to religion, Return of the Swallows is the yearly celebration of St. Joseph’s Day, or the day of the year where Catholics honor Jesus’ dad. Not God, but Joseph. Anyway, the whole town celebrates with festivals and parades as the birdies return home to begin construction on their mud nests. Clinging to the ruins of the stone church destroyed in the earthquake of 1812, the swallows’ homecoming serves as proof that even though natural disasters bring destruction, life will persist, and so will bird poop.
