Quick Draw

Remember that feeling you got whenever your artwork was displayed? Whether it was your second-grade teacher taping your Cubist interpretation of the neighbor’s cat to her desk or your mom sticking some Crayola-scribbled flowers to the refrigerator door, it always felt really fucking good to be encouraged and recognized for something—and that’s true for people of any age.
Now imagine how the kids attending four Santa Ana elementary schools—Esqueda, Jackson, Roosevelt and Walker—feel about having their drawings, paintings, prints, collages and mixed-media pieces on display at a real gallery. Artists Cheryl Michelon and Helen Seigal instructed these students as a part of the Santa Ana Unified School District’s Artist-in-the-Schools program, and now their hard work is up for you to see at Orange Coast College Art Center.
