‘Darkness Into Light’ and ‘Looking Outward, Looking Inward’

The oldest gallery on Laguna Beach’s Gallery Row, Sandstone features a diverse selection of contemporary fine art in an eclectic mix of mediums. This month, they host two exhibits exemplifying just that. Founding artist Marge Chapman will unveil her “Darkness Into Light” collection, a series of charcoal-and-ink abstracts that create a jarring relationship between light and dark. A painter and collage artist now in her 90s, Chapman is the sole active artist left from the gallery’s debut 29 years ago. Exhibiting alongside her at the gallery is Dave Fox’s “Looking Outward, Looking Inward,” a sequence of colored etchings depicting textured landscapes and human figures in rich, warm tones. Other local artists showing at the gallery this month include Jennifer Griffiths, KL Heagen, Howard Hitchcock, Sunny Kim, Anne Moore, Marjorie Sanders, Sheryl Sauer and Lynn Welker.

Mondays, Wednesdays-Sundays, noon. Starts: Nov. 4. Continues through Nov. 29, 2010
