Teen Rapist Teacher Jeffrey Scott Jones Slits His Throat After Guilty Verdict is Read

Well, so much for saving the conviction of teen rapist teacher Jeffrey Scott Jones for the next Pervy Monday Pervy roundup.

That's because the 56-year-old Huntington Beach resident had to up and slit his throat in the courtroom Wednesday.

After the verdicts were read—guilty of felony continuous sexual abuse and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child—the judge asked the attorneys if they wanted the jurors polled and both replied no.

Jones, now looking at a possible sentence of 68 years to life in state prison being imposed in November, then took a razor out of his left pocket, slit his throat and had his head hit the table with a thud as blood oozed out of his neck.

He was handcuffed as emergency personnel attempted to stop the bleeding. They got Jones stabilized and rushed him to a hospital. He is expected to recover from non-life threatening injuries.

Now the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating how Jones, who was free on bail before he passed through the Santa Ana courthouse’s metal detectors, got a razor inside.

Jones was found guilty of repeatedly raping and touching the chest and vagina of his ex-girlfriend's 13-year-old relative.

His defense attorney, who expressed relief that his client is going to survive, also mentioned that he believed enough reasonable doubt was raised during the trial to spare Jones a conviction. A female relative of the victim gave jurors an explanation different from the prosecution's on how Jones' semen wound up in the girl's cervix.

In rebuttal, Senior Deputy District Attorney Heather Brown introduced evidence that Jones had sex with two minor former students over extended periods of time.

He'd taught at Bell High School in Bell and Gahr High School in Cerritos. At the time of Jones' arrest, he was teaching advanced placement English at Libra Academy in Huntington Park.
