Punk Against Trump Festival Announced With T.S.O.L., Dwarves, Voodoo Glow Skulls

Since last November, one byproduct of the Trump presidency that we actually prayed for was to see a new fire lit under the ass of the punk scene. Well, imagine our surprise over the weekend when we received some leaked info (the President’s favorite kind) that the fire we hoped for has officially turned into a festival. Today, the Glass House announced its inaugural Punk Against Trump Festival, June 9-10, featuring two nights headlined by T.S.O.L. along with Dwarves, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Lower Class Brats and many more. The two-day fest, dubbed a “political awareness event” is more than just a chance for you to mosh and swing at piñata effigies of the Orange One.

For T.S.O.L.’s Jack Grisham, the event is not so much about being anti-Trump as it is being anti-ignorance and oppression from any side.

“I’ve always been a fan of civil disobedience and non-resistance. Are we really trying to fan the fire of hate? No, of course not,” Grisham says. “It doesn’t solve anything. We’re not trying to fan the fire of hate as much as we’re asking you to do is just see it. This goes for the left and the right.”

Punk Against Trump is also bringing together a number of grass roots organizations to attendees to educate festival attendees on everything from DACA to voter registration.

OC Organizing Crew, a group tasked with registering voters on college campuses and high traffic events, and doing Voter Registration and Engagement trainings, and helping to organize Social Media trainings will be out in force. “We are also building canvassing programs to the get out the vote for the June primary and November election,” OCOC member Cate Hardesty says. “Our primary mission is GOTV (get out the vote) so we can flip the house, and stop the Trump agenda. Although our intent is to flip red seats blue, we do nonpartisan voter registration. We register everyone!”

DSA Orange County, a local chapter of a nation-wide organization committed to building a mass socialist movement in the United States, will also be on hand to connect with aspiring activists who come out to mosh but stay to make a difference. “We actively fight against oppression in many forms, including – the patriarchy, economic inequality, and white supremacy,” the organization says in a statement. “To further this transition from capitalism to socialism we cooperatively educate, promote mutual aid, and participate in direct action. A better world is possible, and we welcome you to join us in our fight for it.”

Warped Tour’s founder Kevin Lyman is also expected to speak at the event on Saturday, June 9.

Tickets are now sale starting at $25 for each night and $40 for a two-night pass. See the flier below for the full lineup. To purchase tickets, click here.
