Pepper

You can just picture the members of Pepper switching around the dial a couple of months ago, running across “Lay Me Down” by the Dirty Heads, and saying, “WTF? Sounding like Sublime is our thing!” Well, if the Hawaii-originated band wants to reclaim their title as the heirs to Bradley Nowell’s laid-back, playfully vulgar, reggae-rock throne, what better place to do so than Orange County? After all, the band’s breakthrough album Kona Town—which featured “Give It Up,” the “why don’t you have some dirty hot sex with me” song that has been inescapable on alternative radio for several years—was put out by Costa Mesa’s Volcom. Their latest effort is an EP, Stitches, and the reason behind the current tour. Don’t miss their two-night stint at the Grove this week.
