Beast on the Moon

Aug 25th • 8:00 pm • Long Beach Performing Arts Center

Richard Kalinoski’s 1995 play Beast on the Moon is about surviving. Its two leads, Armenian-American lovers burdened with pain, loss and the guilt of not being among 1.5 million murdered in the genocide by Turkey, respond as if directed by ghosts, tradition, a vividly undead past, so that their feeble if sincere efforts to create new life make them seem like sadistically manipulated puppets, victims in their own ways. An avuncular narrator guides us, and them, through a real-life drama whose truths a contemporary audience knows are still being struggled with. Discounted tickets for tonight’s preview at Long Beach’s International City Theatre.
