County Supervisor Todd Spitzer Blasts Probation Department Over “Offensive Flyer”

Too far?

Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer, who wants to be your next district attorney, is seeking an apology from the chief of the Orange County Probation Department for “an offensive flyer announcing the job transfer of a director that depicts Santa Ana as a gang haven.”

The flyer announces a May 10 going-away party for Division Director Shawn Small, who is apparently taking a job in Santa Barbara and is superimposed to split two sets of images.

On one side, “Hello Wine!” is the type over images of grape vineyards and rolling hills. “Goodbye Santa Ana!” accompanies a Logan Street sign, the Santa Ana water tower and graffiti spelling out the F Troop gang.

“I am shocked and appalled that the Probation Department would put out such a disrespectful notice announcing a party,” says Spitzer in a release from his office.“Probation Chief Steve Sentman owes an apology to the people of Santa Ana and the rest of the county.”

The alert notes that Logan Street was the site of a 2011 gang murder, while adding that the Santa Ana Police Department has “worked hard to eradicate gang crime.”

“Santa Ana has done so much to improve its reputation and should not be seen as a gang infested community,” says Spitzer. “That’s outrageous.”

We’ll update with Sentman’s reaction should it come.
