Best Golf Course for Working-Class Stiffs

The name says country club, but this 36-hole, city-owned facility is open to the public. It's affordable ($33 in peak times during the week, $47 on weekends on the 6,500-yard Los Lagos course, $26-$38 on the shorter, 5,400-yard Mesa Linda Course). It's old-school, as both have been around nearly 50 years and one of the designers was William F. Bell, part of the legendary father-son Bell unit, which designed scores of courses across Southern California. And it's homey, since so many of its regular players have been playing there so long and it's a viable part of the surrounding community. So, maybe lay off the spliffs for one afternoon and just perfect your game on one of the most authentic golf courses in the county, one that won't break your wallet but will provide a decent amount of challenge.
