1993: After 29 years with the Los Angeles Police Department, Pat McKinley, who helped create the country's first SWAT team, takes a gig as police chief in Fullerton. He retired in 2009 and is now a member of the city council.
On July 5, 2011, Fullerton police officers savagely beat Kelly Thomas. He died five days later and the police department fell under international scrutiny.
