Starting September 1, 2011, a huge south swell made its way to the Wedge in Newport Beach to entertain spectators and surfers with 20-foot-plus waves all day Thursday. Hundreds of locals gathered early to watch surfers, bodyboarders, and other daredevils brave the triple overhead conditions in one of the biggest swells so far this year. Summer's over, September's almost over, so what better way to reminisce than with us? September brought us Michele Bachmann, tremendous waves, the failure that was the Playground Festival, Rancid, Kanye West, the Joy Formidable, booze fests, dogs surfing, dogs in costume. . . you know. The usual.
